The homeless stuff is something I am familiar with. The origin was drawn out but believable. Cannot discuss too much without ruining a very good read.
Filled with memorable characters, unexpected plot twists, fast-paced suspense, and fresh prose, The Vagabond is definitely a keeper, especially for lovers of mystery, suspense, and above all, superheroes. The characters are three-dimensional with sympathetic backstories that will win your loyalty and keep you turning the pages long after bedtime. The plot, though clearly an origins story, does not disappoint with plenty of unique and unexpected twists that set it apart from others in the genre while still remaining true to other superhero stories. I was looking for a great read, and this one stands out as well-written, fun, and fresh in an ocean of the same old, same old. The Vagabond is a breath of fresh air for readers and a hell of a debut for Hyphen D. ,
“Vagabond Origins” by Hyphen D is a superhero story unlike any other. Firstly, it is far from predictable! The deeper you delve into the story the more you get hooked. The plot and characters are well constructed, multi-faceted and there is nothing clunky about the flow.
As you begin your journey into the story you will be introduced to Vince. A young man stuck in an unfilling rut as an employee at the Feedle Mart. He still lives at home with his mother at 25 years of age. He is a relatable character as I can testify to have known my fair share of “Vinces” in real life. They are not hard to find nowadays. The more you find out about him the more you will be drawn in. Vince wants more out of life... "he just wants his actions to mean something." As we are introduced to the characters around him, like the seductive Carrie, we soon learn that these characters are far from one-dimensional. Add a jealous husband to the mix and the brew begins to thicken nicely.
When circumstances take an ugly turn, Vince’s life begins to spiral out of control till an unlikely mentor, Freeman, steps onto the scene. Freeman easily wins over readers and is a master-stroke addition on the part of the author. Vince soon learns that there is much more to this man than meets the eye. Therein lying the life lesson never to judge, stigmatize or label people based on outward appearances. The dialogue in this book is excellent and balanced with well executed descriptive passages in between. I really enjoyed reading the scene when a solitary Vince occupies himself with exercise whilst confined in a claustrophophic space. The author has a definite knack for story-telling and Vince’s journey is expertly unfurled with equally fascinating characters along for the ride. As the protagonist is led on the path to fulfilling his destiny, readers are well on their way to discovering their new favourite superhero!
Oh ... my ... goodness! This is among the most inventive stories I've ever read. So original and entertaining. What depths of peculiar inventiveness must constantly swirl in the mind of Hyphen D.
